Division head quarters at Bour-
mont 5 mi. Unable to get
any supplies. Have been feel-
ing quite badly. having
fever & much soreness.
Billeted with Madam [Sufre?]
had lovely room, good bed
& c.  Still miserable. temperature
all time, night sweats & consider-
able pain.  trying to get things
straightened out. did get auto
but no supplies.
Went to Base Hosp. #18 at Ba-
zoilles, Johns Hopkins Unit
the 11" to Ward 9. Examinations
& observation till 21" when
diagnosis still somewhat in
doubt. exploratory laparot.
advised to which I consented
Operation morning of 22" [R.?]
median incision. adhesions
about gall-bladder. Abscess
of liver discovered - R. Rect.
incision closed.  Rib resected
& abscess opened & drained.
Did fine for two weeks when
had set-back, Drainage
of pus & debris Then later 3"
[...k?] pure bile. Did fine till
first week in
                       March and
                April. 1918.
Pneumonia base of both lungs
which gradually cleared.
Dr. Harter, surgeon, Dr. Guthrie
medical. Drainage tube out
20" Mch.  Propped up in bed
the 19" Mch. Continued to be up a
bit each day. Lifted into wheel
chair 3" & improvement gradual
& steady. Tho have poor sleep &
much pain in back especially
when lying down.  Left 23" In
Hospital Train for Base #9.
N.Y. Hospital Unit at Chateau-
roux day & night trip.
Weather warmer tho no sun
shine. Large Hosp. good [meals?]
but poor service.
