Moved in trucks to location on top of
hill by road-side, in field full of
shell-holes, ammunition dump at
cross-roads.  Great activity about
here, much shelling & aerial activ-
ity. Air-fights & two balloons brought
down 1" morning plane fell about
200 yds. from hospt. both pilot and obser-
ver buried where they fell.
178 bombing planes over at one time
a great sight & must have put the
fear of God into the hearts of the Huns.
29" Ike Reese killed by H.E. was
writing to wife when shell landed
near dug-out.  Planes over every
night & many bombs dropped saw
several land tho heard of no par-
ticular damage.  Valley being
shelled constantly & many casual-
ties. Aerial activity continues, counted
10 balloons up. saw 2 brought down
by one flyer. observers down in
parachutes.  Many air-fights &
Hun planes over every day.
Anti-aircraft blaze away at 'em
but evidently do no damage tho
shooting at 'em looks to be good sport
Gassed began to arrive on 31" heavy
barrage starting just after midnight
Here the 2" had center of push & were
expected to take Landres St. George
which the 42" had tried 3 times to take
& failed considered the strongest
part of the line but 2" gained 11 K's.
1" days. Rt & Lt. could not keep up
