Dear E

        I received a letter from

Amanda this morning and was in hopes

to have had one from you, but I supposed

I shall get it tomorrow or next day.

Charley Neil and George Chadwick

called to see me to day and stoped

about an hour. They leave for Washington

to night in the five oclock train, and are

also going to Gettysburg. I rather think I

shall get a furlough in the course of a week

or fortnight at the fartherest, I know you and

the children must have been disapointed

but it could be helped, And I think

it was as well that I did not get it at
