Baltimore July 22 1863
Dear E.
I suppose you was greatly disapointed at my
not coming home with Norris. but I could not get a furlough
at that time and perhaps its all for the best, as I can get one
before a great while, I was somewhat disapointed myself, but it
wont make much difference, as I may be sent on N.Y. or Boston
and that will be better than getting a Furlough here, as I could
get one there, and it would not cost me any thing hardely to
get to Lynn, to speak off. My ankle is better to day then it was yesterday
as walking or rather stiring around inflamed it considerable
but a day or two rest will remove all that. I am in a first rate
place on Lexinton Street one of the main streets of Baltimore and my
window looks on to the street, the room is large and airy containing
Eight beds or rather couches, Everything nice and clean, with enough
to eat and that whats's good, There is any quantity of Women in most of
the day bringing books fruit and every thing to eat, consequently its impossible
for any one to be lonesome, or low spirited, Norris left for home last
night and I suppose will see you tomorrow, But its hard
for me to write as I am oblidged to keep my leg in just sutch
a position, but I shall write to you every week once or twice
while I am here or till I get home, and I want you all to
do the same, tell the girls to be sure and write this week.
When you write, Direct your letter to Wm F. Morgan
