I returned yesterday

from New York, where delegates

from this city, Baltimore &

Boston had been holding a 

meeting to [?] [?] the

  opening [?] of the American 

Freedmen Aid Commission.

The enclosed portion

of the Constitution will [?]

for our object. It is to give

unity & nationality to the 

movement for the Black

man, to take it out of the 

rut in which it has been

worked -- by men not competent

to take in its breadth & sign-

nificance -- and put it on 

the plane which it ought
