always that my efforts are so erratic – so prolix – So
everything else, than in accordance with Epistolary rules
that I am astonished at my own presumption in so frequently
attempting it & in feeling such pleasure in it. – But! once
More! – I have many thanks for the Kind insinuations
as to Mr T.s remissness in delivering messages &c. –
In fact I have frequently scolded him severely for being
selfish enough to forget in his own exquisite enjoyment at
Ingleside, - his less fortunate friend, and especially for not
delivering the numerous messages with which he is always
burdened by me – Now, in future I wish you to consider him
always the bearer of special & particular messages, & insist
on a recollection of each particular one. – but No! poor
fellow! – were he to begin to tell one half that is said, he
would find it such an infliction that his pleasure would
be turned into any thing else. – I must not require this!
but consider at least that you are always thought of while
he is away & spoken of when he is near. He will vouch
for his I am certain.
Just at this juncture, - as I
write – the soul inspiring – heart refreshing – notes of
"Old Hundred" are borne sweetly – softly – grandly and
melodiously to my ear from the Brigade Band – with
its strains my very soul seems lifted to Heaven! Oh!
the power, the beauty – the wonderful effect of 'Music'!
How every chord of my heard vibrates at it touch! How
Every nerve tingles with delight! & my own spirits become
as bouyant & light as air – from my heart I thank
the performers for this unexpected addition to the pleasures
of this day! – fitting association! – how apropos! I would
that I might be frequently interrupted so pleasantly.
It takes me in imagination again to Ingleside & you
