I will not attempt in the short time allowed

me to reply to your last highly prized letter

but cannot let friend Thompson return to Ingleside

without a word from me to prove that my

friends there are not forgotten – to say nothing

of my obligation for the condolences kindly off-

-ered. – I am happy to say that the latest

arrival from S. America? (or else where) causes

me no pain or distress, and that I hope

to be among the first to offer [my con...?] &c

I hope the social atmosphere [at Ingleside]

does not near the same [atmosphere?] as that

in Camp since the New [?] I have not

been myself in this important. particular in

all that time. and fear my friends here will soon

vote me intolerable. – I know nothing to im-

-prove my condition, but a visit to [Hanover?]

once more (I leave you to imaging the precise

locality!) and if curiosity should ever recall
