            Could Miss Bettie have

been near when her letter was

handed to me and while I perused

it, she would have been satisfied

with its welcome, for I was almost

as glad as if it had borne the

signature I love best of all others

on earth; viz Bro' Johnie's: my heart

aches so at the thought of bidding

him "good-bye" that I can scarcely

write, but I cannot let him return

to Virginia without an answer

to your very sweet note and will
