   To my Dear parents

I steal a few moments from my

countrys service to write to you my dear parents who have

nourished me into manhood.  all the returns of any value I can make you

are the assurances of gratitude and of persuing a life of honor

and virtue.  My daily petition is that I may live to do those things

in your presence  Providence however seemes to have designed

otherwise for the present but I humbly resign myself to its

determinations.  Volumes would not suffice to tell the history of

my thoughts or transactions.  I must therefore leave them until

heaven Shall permit us to meet personly which I hop will be in

about four mouths.  I am a going to take parte in the coming battle

if possible wheather my regament does or not.  I hope I shall be

able to capture some trophy to fetch home to you as well as to

honor to my country.  I ask your blessing and prayer for my prosperity

I want you to kiss my little sisters for me and tell them

that I love them with the greatest affection.  I am sorry that

my fortune has seprated me from then. but I leave them with you

to god  Tell to do the best he can until I come home and

may that great and good being who delights in the

cheerful praises of his creatures bless us all

I have the honor to be with the most

heartfelt gratitude and affection Your dutiful son

you need not write until you hear from me again

for the mail arrangement will be changed.
