the landscape was verry much different

nothing but ptch pine trees and tents to

be seen  Dec 16 I have been strutting

around camp with a new carbine hung

to my back  I was put on guard to

day but taking advantage of a good

chanc I got clear of the duty

 

                   Dec 16th 1861

 Dear Brother

            I received your and

Eunices and Sovia letters sunday eve

it is not nessasary to tell you how

glad I was to receive some good news

from home  I wish I had known that

Mr. Williams came to washington I should

likd to have seen him  Will you tell me

what regiment Edwin blongs to and

name of captain  I have seen Joseph

Stafford and Fletcher Baxter they

are down to fourt Washington tell Eunice

that I paid Harriet Heart a visit

the other evening her husband is sick
