the boys are in fine spirits now  they say

that they are a going into the field this time

like troopers and not like dogs for Col Hunts

regulars there was good act that our boys done

in the battle for williansburg the rebels began to

throw grape shot at our boys that were useing

the field pieces and Hunts bulley regulars

run and left the batteries but our boys stuck to

them and their horses was so many of them killed

that they could not haul off their pieces the rebels

came up and demanded them to surrender  Col hunt

told hm he would not surrender to no such ill looking

villain as him and he ordered the boys to load with

double charge of canister shot they shot the sesesh

officers horse out from under him and he run

for dear life so did the rest of his command they

did not stop to help their wounded off but left

them on the field they could not stand canister

shot any better then the regulars could grape

our regt did not lose a man there one had his

sabre shot into and an nother had his spur shot off

his heall

 

You say you can ride a horse on the trot

bare back  I am not hure but you will make

a trooper if you keepon you wish to know

how much flesh I lost I weighed two hundred and
