seargent told me that I would be

responsible for their safe keeping after

awhile the peddler wanted to go off

I did not know but he was a prisoner

trying to play roots on me so when he

came out I told him to not go off he

swore he would go where he was a mind

to for all of me says [I?], you [?] and I

up set hin and threw hin back into

the shanty unfortunately for him I

his coat almost off of him in the

affair he had to stay until the seargent

came and let him out.  It commenced snowing

about midnight

 

                 Feb 1st  To day is

saturday it rained and snowed we

did not drill I got a letter from John

Planter dated the ninth of Jan he did

put on it the No of the reg it went through

evry cavalry reg from NY before I got it

he is well  Feb 2d  today is the sabbath it

is a verry pleasant one too w went out on

review this morning. after that we passed

the day in giveing one an other sentances to

write from the Bible in the evening we

had a bible class  Leiut B [J?] Coffin took

the lead  Feb 3d  I was on police duty

to day and I got a pass and went

to the citty it commenced snowing this mo
