          Union County Arkansas Sept 26th 1858

 

Dear Brother

           I received yours of the 5th 4th

it affords us much pleasure to hear from

our relations alltho we are at a great distance

from Each other  I hope you will continue

to write as often as may be conveniant

we are all well and Earnestly hope this

letter may find you & yours the Same

Brother Magees family are all well

Except Sore Eyes  Dear Brother I was

at the Association which was held in Columbia

county Arkansas on the Second Lords day

and Satturday before it in this month

at Salem church

we had quite an interesting meeting

a good many preachers D S Williams

was their the Association imployed a

preacher to Ride in its bounds the next

year as Missionary and colporture he

finds himself & horse and is to have

500 dollars for his Services his name

is Benjamine F Grey he come to Eldorado

last winter with Brother W C Johnson

from Harris County ga he is a graduate

from the Mercer Institute a Baptist

preacher who is not a coledge Bred

man will all ways find himself in the

rear it is a general thing the Baptist

want coledge Bred men  Corn is worth

1 dollar pr bushel flour 7 dollar pr barrel

bacon 15 cts port 23 dollar per barrel

blacksmiths work 20 cts per lard 15 cts
