                   Dear friend

yours of Aug 17th came tudy to

hand. & I react with pleasure

that you were , well, this leaves

me well & enjoying all the [Sweets?]

of a Soldiers life.  you complained

some in your last of a negligence

on my part about writing

I suppose that I owe you an appolligy

for not writting before, but

as I [amlways?] make the matter

worse I shall offer no excuse

you also made some threats, if this

last letter of yours was not answerd

that you should not write to
