Lieutenants Morecock & Waller
Gentlemen
Knowing how attentive, &
exact you are in the performance of your duties, I feel convinced
that your leaving the Review this afternoon was the result of a
misconception & that you had no design to be insubordinate or
to commit a military impropriety. The Adjutant has the
right an unquestionable one in my opinion to assign where
the companies are [?] - officers to take command
acordg to rank - else a Captain might be required to be
[file?] closer to a company commanded by a Lieutenant or it
would be [necessary?] for him to withdraw – the absurdity of this is
[?] opponent to need [armments?]. If you thought we were wronged
by the adjutant you ought to have applied for redress and not to have
taken the matter in your own hands as you did seemingly at least
Respectfully
