October 29
Today was a wonderful day! This
afternoon Elaine and I drove out to
Langley Field with six other college
gals with the Red Cross as part of the
rehabilitation program for wounded
air Corps men recovering in the
hospital there. We talked with
all types of men – from Brooklyn,
from Oregon – broken legs acquired in
camps here – broken backs from
crashing in the South Pacific. I was
especially pleased when the woman in
charge told me one of the men with whom
I had spoken for quite awhile had
really talked and smiled for the first
time in over a month. I felt good
all over as though I’d really accomplished
something.
We drove back – had supper at the lodge.
Studied all evening.
